Question by : Women’s Health Program?
I am currently attending college and living on campus. I recently became sexually active and have decided that it would be best if I get on some form of birth control.

I contacted my local planned parenthood and they said i could qualify for the women’s health program. This program asks for proof of income but since I am currently unemployed due to being a full time student I dont really have a big monthly income. I attend college through scholarship money and the only income i recieve is about $ 100 a week from my parents for personal expenses and then about $ 150-200 a week for babysitting after my class.

The program asked me to get letters from my parents and from the person i babysit along with contact information as proof of income but I was wondering if they would for sure be contacted?

I really dont feel like having to explain to my parents why i got into the program especially since they are so big on the no sex before marriage idea so i figured i would get my aunt who understands my situation to sign instead.

Is there any way if my aunt signs and says that she provides me with the income instead of my parents that she or I could get into any trouble?
Thanks but unfortunately i just called PP and they said they wouldnt allow me to do that. I thought it was a perfect solution icon sad |Womens Health Program? lol …..i know its wrong but what if i type up the letter for my parents and sign it for them. will they be contacted or is the letter sort of more just for records?

Ask someone at Planned Parenthood what their policy is, but I’m sure you can work something out–but I wouldn’t say that your aunt provides the income, it’s always best to tell the truth. Just have her act as a “witness” so to speak to verify your income. I’ve gone there for testing, and confidentiality is very, very important to them. If you don’t want your parents to find out, PP will make sure that all steps are taken to respect that.

EDIT: I’m not sure. I don’t *think* they’d contact your parents, in the interest of maintaining confidentiality, but I’m not sure. I didn’t provide income information when I went, because I know I wouldn’t have qualified.

Generally the ratio is about the same between mena nd women. The thing is, in almost every culture men are looked down upon (and weak) if they seek mental help. Women are more accepted as being anxious and depressed and overwhelmed. men are thought to be the ‘strong’ ones–and should be able to ‘snap out of it’–which is very false.
