Which Is More Durable, The Fat Ps2 Or Slim Ps2?

My question is not based on selection, but on quality.
Two people the other day told me that the fat ps2 is less likely to be defective than a slim ps2 because the fat one has a fan while the slim ps2 does not.
My question is: which is the more durable product: the slim or fat ps2?
