Question: Question about female hair care from a single dad of a little girl?
My 6 yr old daughter has long hair. I want to use the best salon-qulaity hair products on her hair and I want to care for her hair in the best possible way. What products should I use? How often, etc?

thats very kind cool dad! but i think that a simple, fruity scented shampoo and matching conditioner should do the trick! just comb through her hair after she gets out of the shower to keep it tangle free. if it is tangley, try some leave in conditioner or anti-tangle spray! good luck

i know paul mitchell has the baby dont cry line which is a shampoo and they have a detangling spray as well. as far as hair products, she shouldnt need any unless her hair is curly and unruly, in which case, redkens ringlet works amazingly :]

the answer for this question is hard without knowing anything about her hair .. everyones hair is different some is fine or thick … curly or straight.. I would say the next time you take her to get her hair cut or trimmed (which is usually every 6 weeks) then have the stylist recomend a shampoo and conditioner that would be good for her spacific hair type…

Try Tresemme shampoo and conditioner. They have many different types to choose from which come in huge bottles and are about 4-5 dollars each. A little goes a long way and it smells good. I would suggest 24 Hour Body or Moisture Rich for her, since she is only 6 she doesn’t need the one for color treated or dry and damaged hair.

Then after she gets out of the shower comb her hair with a fine tooth comb instead of pulling a brush through it, since that causes breakage. I would suggest using this product while her hair is still wet:

I can’t find much info for it online but it is excellent for shine and softness and reducing frizz. It smells amazing and she’ll love the bottle. It feels just like a lotion but it’s for hair.

Garnier Fructis Length & Strength Shampoo,Cream Conditioner, & Anti-Split Ends Leave-in Treatment.

Trim her hair once every 3 months, if not split ends will cause her hair to break off and her hair will begin to lose it’s beauty, if you plan on just maintaining her length, a trim once every month and a half to two months should suffice.

Don’t use a brush to detangle her hair, this will stretch her hair and may cause her hair to break off. Instead use your fingers, a pick, or a wide tooth comb to detangle her hair.

Be gentle when detangling, pulling down on her hair too hard will cause breakage.

Hair can get caught on cotton pillow cases and break when she is sleeping especially if she toss and turn a lot when she sleeps. Using a satin or silk pillowcase, her hair will make it so that hair will slide across the pillowcase without getting caught. Another tactic to prevent breakage is to put her hair up in a ponytail on the top of her head with a scrunchie or specially treated band (that prevents breakage).

An alternative to the silk pillowcase is to wear a satin or silk scarf over her hair before her sleep to prevent breakage.

Brushing her hair is important because it spreads the the hair oils out across the length of her hair. Use long strokes starting from the roots of herr hair when brushing and stroke your hand over her hair after you are done brushing to get rid of static.

i think that you should try pantene or tresemme. and to make sure its healthy and to make the risk of split ends smaller, either trim her hair yourself or go to a shop to trim it. and a trim only needs to be about 1 inch shorter. that way she has long healthy hair.

Aww, what a great dad you are!
Aveda makes very nice salon quality products, as does Redken (what i buy when i can afford it lol).
And a brand called Philosophy makes “bath products” (shampoo that can be used as body wash or bubble bath as well) that everyone tells me work quite well and smell like candy (something that your daughter may like). You can look it up on Sephora.com.

-If you can, once every week or two use a thick conditioner on her hair (surprisingly, Pantene makes a really good one) while it is dry. Have her sit for a few minutes and then rinse it out. It’ll make her hair nice and soft
-Don’t use a brush while her hair is wet, use a wide toothed comb to detangle it.
-Try not to blow dry her hair very often either (too much heat causes it to break). Towel dry her hair really well and let it air dry.
-You might want to work a little bit of smoothing creme through her hair when it is damp (they help with frizz And they seem to keep tangles down). Tresemme makes a good one.
-Take care with what you use to pull her hair back. Don’t use elastics with metal pieces on them (ouch!) and don’t pull it back Very tight (it can cause breakage). Put it back in a scrunchie before she goes to bed to keep it from tangling.

I agree with Roo, the Garnier Fructis brand has a great tear-free kids line of products. If you get one of the ones that is 2-in-1 (shampoo plus conditioner) sometimes that makes it a little easier – I prefer these because they are pretty balanced, separate conditioner can sometimes leave hair too greasy looking. She has great tips on haircare there also – Great Answer, Roo!
