Q&A: Question about dying hair darker..?
Hey there. I just bought Clairol Natural Instincts in Hazelnut. My hair is light/medium brown and I want to dye it just a bit darker. I got blonde highlights years back and they show through a bit and are brassy. I’ve read some reviews on this hair product and it seems like it doesn’t last very long. The reason I bought it was so that my hair doesn’t become too damaged.. but I also want the color to last, I’m not going to dye it often as that will DEFINITELY damage it. Should I just return it and get a permanent with No ammonia? What would be the best brand that looks nice, moisturizes, and doesn’t damage the hair all too much. I also don’t really want my roots to grow in as that looks yucky.
I don’t have the reciept but do you think rite-aid would let me return the hair-dye as it is unopened? Thanks for your help.

Yeah, you should get permanent. I mean ALL hair dye fades eventually but that sh!t you got will just straight wash out.

Try going to a beauty supply store (like Sally’s) because they have soy based permanent hair dye and its less expensive there.

I’ve used L’Oreal and Clairol both, and always use the permanent colors. They work out pretty well and don’t dry out my hair. There is typically a conditioner enclosed in the package that you use once a week, make sure to use that. My hair is healthy and is not dried out, and I dye my hair frequently.
However, I may not be the best judge, as I’ve only dyed my natural hair color (medium blonde) to a lighter blonde color, so I do believe lighter colors stay in longer (or at least appear to in my case).
I’m sure you can return the dye to Rite-Aid. As long as you don’t dye your hair all of the time, it should be fine.

Natural Instincts is a semi-permanent hair colour and it is only meant to last for about 12 washes. My daughter uses Herbal Essences and she does it about once a month with no adverse effects. Just like you, she colours her hair slightly darker than her natural colour. As for the streaks, they’ll have to grow out. You can always call the 800 number on the box for their suggestions.

I use a permenent dye and I am crazy about damaging my hair. I do not use any gels, hair spray, etc. nor do I use blow dryers or curling irons. I color my hair every 6-8 weeks and itr’s fine.
