Q&A: I am an 18yrs old boy with super curly hair…provide me with some tips for hair care?
They remain dry most of the time…but they are wet they settle well and look good

Long or short?

If you have long hair you should try straightening it. It usually looks good on most guys

And if it’s dry, condition it.

Understand that it is hard for any of us to give much advice when we can’t see your hair. It would be best if you discuss this with a good hair stylist explaining things you would like to do and then can tell you some things you can do with your hair.

Generally, I feel that when the hair is shorter, it is easier to handle. It can’t get out of line easily when there is no length. I like to keep the hair to about one curl in length. Longer and it will go round and round, and can then go in many directions and never stay where you want it.

If your hair is wavy as opposed to a curl, the same thing applies. You don’t want to have enough length so that it can go back and forth — just enough for one wave.

The other alternative is to keep it quite long, so that you can tie it up. The length and weight will pull it down and won’t be as curly — except on the ends. Being an active person, you may not have the time to bother with longer hair and all the extra work involved in keeping it in place.

If you say your hair is dry, then you need better hair products. You are no doubt over-shampooing. You will need to use a good moisturizer — no an oil, but something that keeps water in the hair. Oil and wax are of no use.

Discuss your hair with a good stylist. You will get good tips on what is best in YOUR case. There are many factors that need to be considered — size of curl, density of hair, condition, etc.– things which we cannot see from here. There is nothing better than having a good stylist who understands what you want and will work with you to achieve it.
